In the National Park, the most representative cultural assets are the monasteries in the Tara valley - St. Đorđa in Dobrilovina, Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Doblja and St. Archangel Michael in Đurđevića Tara. Tar monasteries, apart from their high spiritual and religious importance, played an important role in enlightenment and the liberation struggle of the people of this area. Among the recorded objects of sacred character are the churches in Žabljak and the surrounding villages of Međužvalje, Krš, Tepci, Mala Montenegro, Novakovići. They are modest one-nave churches, with bell towers on the front, built of hewn stone, built in the first half and end of the 19th century.
Dobrilovina Monastery
The monastery of St. George in Dobrilovina is linked by tradition to the Nemanjić dynasty. Dobrilovina Monastery, with a church dedicated to St. Đorđe, is located in the village of Donja Dobrilovina, in the gentle valley of the Tara River, on its left bank.
The first written information about the Dobrilovina monastery comes from 1592. The founder of the monastery is not known. Several names are mentioned who participated in the restoration and painting of the monastery. In the second half of the 16th century, there is mention of Dobrije Dedejić, who settled in Dorilovina, and who donated his property to the monastery. The construction of the monastery buildings in Dobrilovina began in 1593, so the entire monastery complex was completed in 1610.
The painting of the monastery began to be written on April 18, 1620. The influence of the Dobrilovina monastery was significant both on the local population and on the surrounding princes and beyond. His influence was felt throughout Potarje. Dobrilovina was the center of the gathering of champions from the wider area of Potarje and Polimlje, where important decisions on resistance to Turkish power were made.
