Bobot's hip

Bobotov Kuk (2,523 m) is the highest peak of the Durmitor massif and the highest point entirely within Montenegro. Located within Durmitor National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1980, it is one of the main mountaineering and tourist destinations in the country.

Geographic and Morphological Features

The Durmitor massif rises sharply from the canyons of the Tara and Piva rivers, with an elevation gain of over 2,000 meters. Within its central zone, a 6 km radius contains 48 peaks above 2,000 m, with Bobotov Kuk being the only one exceeding 2,500 m.

The peak is characterized by a sharp, rocky structure with a view that includes numerous other Durmitor peaks: Prutaš, Šljeme, Savin Kuk, Međed, Minin Bogaz, Sedlena and Uvita Greda, as well as the valleys of Lokvica and Valovito Lake.

The trail is marked and of medium technical difficulty, with a final section equipped with cables and supports. Suitable for physically fit hikers and requires appropriate gear.

At 2,523 meters, Bobotov Kuk offers one of the widest and most impressive panoramic views in Montenegro. Prominent visible peaks include:

  • Međed (2.287 m)
  • Savin kuk (2.313 m)
  • Minin bogaz (2.387 m)
  • Zupci, sa oštrim alpskim formama
  • Sedlena greda, Šljeme, Šareni pasovi, Crvena greda, Uvita greda, Obla glava, Stožina

In addition to Durmitor’s central peaks, the view extends to wider regions of Montenegro and beyond, including:

  • Tara Canyon i dio platoa Sinjajevine
  • Planine Maglić (najviši vrh Bosne i Hercegovine), Bioč, Volujak
  • Komovi i djelove Prokletija

Hiking season

The best time for ascent is from June to October. Early summer may have residual snow on northern exposures.

Bobotov Kuk holds multiple values: geomorphological as the highest Durmitor point, symbolic as a central peak of Montenegrin mountaineering, and touristic as a well-known destination. The Sedlo – Bobotov Kuk route is the most frequented, requiring basic fitness, good footwear, and caution on the final sections.
