Lake Zaboj

Lake Zaboj is one of the most beautiful and most visited lakes in Montenegro, located on the Sinjajevini mountain within the protected areas of the Durmitor National Park. This natural jewel is the ideal choice for mountaineers, nature lovers and all those who want to experience the untouched beauty of the Montenegrin mountains.

Location and access

The lake is located at an altitude of 1477 meters, in the immediate vicinity of the Zaboj katun, from which it takes its name. The katun was an important stop for herders during summer grazing, which gives this area additional historical and cultural significance.

The path to the lake is of medium difficulty and requires about two to two and a half hours of hiking, depending on the physical fitness of the visitors and the number of stops to rest and enjoy the view.

Natural characteristics

Lake Zaboj has a maximum depth of 18.8 meters, and its surface and location allow for the preservation of natural biodiversity. It is surrounded by the picturesque landscapes of Sinjajevina, with a view of the surrounding mountain peaks and spacious meadows, which make it an ideal place for recreation and rest in nature.

We recommend mountaineers and nature lovers to include this site in their itineraries, especially in combination with other destinations within the Durmitor National Park and the Sinjajevina Mountains.
