Wavy lake on Durmitor in a mountain landscape

Valovito lake

Valovito Lake is a mountain lake located at an altitude of 1690 meters, in the southern part of Durmitor. Its characteristic elongated oval shape, as well as steep, rocky shores, give it a recognizable appearance and clearly explain the name "Valovito". The surface area of the water surface is about 11,600 m², while it is interesting that the surface area of the bottom is slightly larger and is about 12,200 m².

This lake is not large - its length is 225 meters, and its width is about 85 meters. The maximum depth of the Wavy Lake is 3.5 meters, and the water is transparent to a depth of about 2 meters. The water from the lake has no natural outlet, and the excess water evaporates during the warm periods of the year.

Three Lakes Trail and Surroundings

Volovito jezero is part of the famous trail "Three Lakes", which includes Modro, Srablje and Volovito jezero. The track is suitable for all ages and conditions and it takes about three hours to go around it. Blue Lake, located at an altitude of 1609 meters above sea level, is distinguished by its deep blue color and is the most famous of the three lakes. Srablje and Valovito jezero are located in the immediate vicinity of Blue Lake, making this environment attractive for nature lovers.

In the vicinity rises the mountain peak of Stožina (1908 m), which is known as the gateway to the southern part of Durmitor. From the top of Stožina, there is an impressive panoramic view of the surrounding mountains, valleys and lakes, including Sinjajevina, the Moračke Mountains, and the vicinity of Žabljak and nearby lakes such as Riblje, Vražje and Pošćensko Lake.
