Renewed Vareza water – the spring around which the city was formed
Tourism Organization Žabljak in partnership with the Municipality of Žabljak, and through the incentive measures project of the NTO of Montenegro, invested in the restoration of "Vareza voda", the first well from which the population was supplied with water since the establishment of the settlement.
Now it can be called a cult place, which fell into oblivion with the development of water infrastructure and, like many things, was devastated.
Until the construction of the water supply system, it was one of the facilities-sources of life. Its name, according to one version, was named after the Varezić settlers, and according to another, after a strong spring of water that resembled the boiling of milk during digestion.
The first name of Žabljak was "Vareza voda". Later, it got the name "Hanovi" or originally "Anovi". Today's name Žabljak was officially given in 1871, when the construction of the church, school and captain's home began on the same day.
In Žabljak, there are still living contemporaries of the well when the well was in operation.
The lack of conscience made the building turn into a ruin, neglected and buried with various waste. Several individual actions of "old town residents" were reduced to cleaning its interior.
Now "Vareza voda" shines again.
Its replica is enriched with modern additions in the form of a canopy and decorative stone slabs.
