IT as support for the development of adventure tourism

Tourist organization Žabljak held a conference on the occasion of the completion of the project "IT as support for the development of adventure tourism", which was implemented with the support of the Telenor Foundation.

The project, as announced by Telenor, meant that members of mountaineering associations and outdoor clubs, cyclists and nature lovers learn more about the use of GPS devices and mobile phones for easier orientation on the mountain.

"The project started in May of this year, since about 100 interested people engaged in tourism or different sports in nature have adopted the practice of GPS mapping. They were trained to enter GPS data, take coordinates of locations important for the tourist offer and collect photos of hiking trails. In this way, 46 popular hiking trails in the area of the national parks Biogradska gora, Durmitor and Prokletije have been mapped and all this data is available on the websites of clubs, travel agencies and organizations, which will contribute to the additional promotion of active tourism. It is interesting that the project planned to map only 20 trails, but the enthusiasm of the participants exceeded all the expectations of the organizers", added Telenor.

Potential guests, as stated by this company, who are choosing a destination for their vacation, or those who are already in Montenegro, can now easily get adequate and detailed information via the Internet about hiking or biking trails.

"The points where mountaineers should pay special attention were highlighted, which increased safety on the mountains. The partners of the tourist organization Žabljak in this project were the Outdoor club The Northern Way from Beran and the Regional Development Agency for Bjelasica, Komov and Prokletije, while financial and logistical support was provided by the Telenor Foundation", they conclude.
