Green Montenegro International Film Fest
The Green Montenegro IFF is Montenegro's only international film festival dedicated to environmental protection, ecology, and sustainable development. Having run continuously for 10 years, it has become recognized as a center of the country’s ecological identity and a unique platform for filmmakers from Montenegro, the region, and around the world.
The festival is held in one of the most beautiful natural areas in Europe, Durmitor National Park, in Žabljak, during the last weekend of July or the first weekend of August. Screenings take place in an Open-Air Cinema setting, at night, in a pine forest near the Black Lake (a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1980).
In addition to film screenings from across the globe, the festival also features panel discussions, masterclasses, conferences, exhibitions, rafting tours, hiking, cycling tours, lake kayaking, organic food promotion (slow food concept), cleanup and tree planting initiatives, and more.
In 2018, the festival became a full member of the renowned international organization “Green Film Network,” headquartered in Innsbruck, Austria, positioning itself on the global map of environmental film festivals as one of the 31 most influential worldwide.
In 2024, for the first time in Montenegro, we introduced wireless headphones, allowing audiences to enjoy high-quality audiovisual production while also protecting the sensitive and precious biodiversity of Durmitor NP. This innovation demonstrates that preserving the natural environment from noise, light, and other pollution is achievable!
The 11th edition of the Green Montenegro International Film Fest will take place from August 2–4, 2025, beside Black Lake and at several other locations in the Municipality of Žabljak.
